About DHA & FAQ

DHA is dihydroxyacetone, a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. DHA is usually derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. Its properties as a skin darkener were discovered in the 1920's but weren't marketed as such until the 1960's when Coppertone^® introduced Quick Tan^®.  It was added to the FDA's list of approved cosmetic ingredients in the 1970's. DHA is the tanning ingredient used in self-tanning solutions that has produced more than 2 million sunless tans with no documented reports of adverse effects.

The tanning industry recognises DHA as the colourless sugar that makes the magic happen in the self tanning process.  DHA reacts with skin proteins, including amino acids, in the outermost layer of the skin.  The reaction develops brown skin colouring that looks very similar to a natural tan.  Skin colouration takes anywhere from 4 to 8 hours to develope. Taylor Tan developes in 4 hours - therefore can be washed off after 4 hours.

Taylor Tanning Mist is made in Australia using the highest pharmaceutical grade DHA available. Our DHA is imported from Europe. 

 Preservtives:95% of the market use Phenoxiethanol as a preservative. It has an extremely unpleasant odour and can cause irritation's in some clinets. They then need to add a fragrance to eliminate the odour. Taylor Tan contains no harsh Phenoxiethanol!

Taylor Tan is the perfect alternative to baking in the harsh Aussie sun because: 

- it won't age the skin
- it won't cause wrinkles
- it wont' cause skin rashes
- it won't cause skin cancer

Important: We recommend that tanning solutions should be kept in the fridge if temperatures are over 20 degrees. Solutions should never be kept any hotter than 20 degrees or cooler than 4 degrees and never kept in a car.

Is a spray tan with Taylor Tan dangerous? Are there any contraindications?
Definitely not; the only contraindication is if you are allergic to one of the components.

Does Taylor Tan spray tan stain your clothes? 
No, we recommend that clients wear dark loose fitting clothes. However leather and silk will absorb Taylor Tan.

How long does Taylor Tan last?
Up to 14 days depending on how moisturized the skin is kept..

Does Taylor Tan come off with normal washing?
No, it will fade gradually and evenly - do not exfoliate. Remember to onsell clients Taylor Tan body wash, this does not contain any harsh ingredients that will strip the tan like soap does.

Will my clients go orange with Taylor Tan?
No, just make sure if they are fair skined that you use only a 10% DHA on them.

Can people with pale skin and blonde/ginger hair use Taylor Tan spray tan?
A spray tan is fantastic for fair skin types since there is no melanin stimulation, so even the most sensitive skins can get a tan without burning.

How best can the Taylor Tan be maintained?  
Let me start by giving a mini-lesson in dermatology: The top layer of our skin sheds naturally in order to give way to newer skin. That top layer of skin is the part that's dyed by the DHA (spray tan solution), the tan wears off once the top layer of dead skin peels off naturally. So, in order to extend the effects of a spray tan, clients must use Taylor Tan moisturiser in order to keep that  top layer of skin from shedding so quickly. So basicaly, if clients moisturise, it will help to maintain a gorgeous tan. Hint: After getting a spray tan with Taylor Tan, tell clients not to exercise, sweat or shower for a minimum of 4 hours, this will allow the DHA to take it's full effect. Do not rub the body with a towel - instead recommend that client's pat dry!

Is there a chance of having an Allergic Reactions to the Taylor Tan solution? 
Some people may have an allergic reaction to Phenoxiethanol, this is NOT an ingredient in Taylor Tan. If worried you should do a patch test prior to the first session

Taylor Tan's preservative is odourless and an extremely low percentage is used. Therfore a fragrance is not needed to cover up or mask the smell that harsh ingredient.

Green based solutions: There are two reasons why most tanning companies have a green based solution. Firstly, it is because their formulas contain a very poor quality FD & C colour agents. Taylor Tan uses the FD & C colours which are 10 times higher in price and also in quality. Secondly, instant bronzers discolour and oxydize within days after the manufacturing, therefore other companies state their solution as being green based - ours is not!

Taylor Tan tanning mist offer's your clients an instant natural colour with no orange undertones and a Taylor Tan that will wear off evenly. The solution is completely fragrant free, all ingredients are natural. Your client’s skin will be completely dry within 5 minutes of application and non sticky - they can return to work or go straight out. Taylor Tan will last for 8-14 days.
